Nannie's Banana Bread

A week ago I baked Banana Bread for the first time... from scratch. Going through some old boxes in my studio I found the old recipe that my Nanny had given me that was from her recipe box. I took it as a sign that Banana Bread would be my next adventure in the kitchen, which I will now share, because it was a fun little journey.

Nannie's Banana Bread

What you will need,

Measuring cups and spoons

1 9x5x3 inch bread pan

Mixing bowls

Mixing spoon

Potato Masher (or fork if you don't have one)

8 Tablespoons of Butter (1stick) creamed

3/4 cup of sugar

2 eggs

1 cup of Flour

1 teaspoon of baking powder

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of vanilla

3 ripe bananas mashed

Optional: 1/2 cup of walnuts (my mama doesn't like nuts so I didn't include any in my loaf)

And now that we are all prepared onward we go but first don't forget to stop for directions!

First preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

Cream butter in a mixing bowl, mix sugar in with butter

Add 1 egg, beat in well, add 2nd egg beat in well

Sift flour, then mix in baking powder and salt in separate bowl then add to creamed butter and sugar mixture, beat well.

Mash Bananas in a separate mixing bowl

Fold in Banana, vanilla, and nuts if you are using them, to the flour and butter mixture all into one bowl. Make sure everything is well mixed in.

Grease Bread pan and pour in the mixture.

Bake for 50-60 minutes till tester comes out clean (I usually us a toothpick as a tester)

Cool for 10mins

I went out to dinner with my Dad that night and wanted to give him a few slices to take home, I forgot to take a photo before I cut it ...oops.
